“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
“Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.’” (John 8:58)
“His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” (Micah 5:2)

Manifestations of God: Genesis 18

The Angel of the Lord: Exodus 3:2–4

II. The Incarnation of Christ

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father.” (John 1:14)
“Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16)

Genealogy of Jesus Christ: Matthew 1:1–16; Luke 3:23–38

Virgin Birth: Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18; Luke 1:31

Why the Incarnation?

To reveal God’s glory:
“No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” (John 1:18)

To sympathize with human weakness:
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)

To accomplish redemption and eternal salvation:
Romans 8:3–4; Hebrews 2:14

To serve as the perfect example of humanity: (Gospel of Luke)

III. The Dual Nature of Christ — Fully God and Fully Man

Necessity of the two natures:
“He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” (Romans 4:25)

Scriptural hints of the two natures:
Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Luke 1:76–79; John 10:18

“The seed of the woman will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

His suffering shows His humanity; His victory over Satan shows His divinity.

“No one takes my life from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.” (John 10:18)

Attributes displayed in the Gospels:

Divine: omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, eternity, power to forgive sins.

Human: hunger, fatigue, thirst, weeping, death.

IV. The Death and Resurrection of Christ

Christ’s death as a perfect man fulfilled redemption.

Christ’s resurrection as perfect God completed salvation.

“He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.” (1 Peter 2:24)

V. The Present Ministry of Christ — The Great High Priest

Hebrews 4:15; 5:6; 7:25

“You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.” (Hebrews 5:6)
“He is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)

VI. The Second Coming of Christ

The Second Coming is the glorious hope of believers.

Daniel 7:13–14; Matthew 25:31; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–18; Acts 1:11; Hebrews 9:27–28; John 14:3; Matthew 24; Revelation 20–21.

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.” (Matthew 25:31)
“This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)
