I have no enemies. Not a single one. No one is my enemy. I am a creation of this world. I am a son of God, a child of nature—and so is everyone else.
We are all created for a single purpose: to enjoy God’s creation and to spread His love.
Why, then, do people act the way they do? Why do people kill and get killed, hate and be hated, inflict suffering and suffer themselves?
They have lost their purpose. They have lost their way.
I have my purpose. I know what I need to do. To cleanse this world of hate, suffering, and evil, I will rid this world of my enemies.
But you haven’t found your way either. You don’t understand the path.
How so? If we rid the world of hate and of our enemies, won’t we live in peace?
What about their enemies? They are yours, and you are theirs. If everyone followed this “purpose,” the whole world would be wiped out. People become enemies because they hate others for hating themselves. Your enemies believe you are the evil that needs to be removed.
That’s why they are my enemy. Their hate for me is unjustified. That’s why they must leave.
And your hate for them is justified? Are you the most righteous, the most just? Is everything you say Authority and Reason?
I am not perfect, but I am more perfect than they are.
Foolishness. Everyone is imperfect. Everyone is equal and imperfect at the same time. Who are you to call yourself a “philosopher” when you yourself are imperfect?
I am striving to become better, to be a force for good. They strive for evil and wickedness. The world would be a better place without them.
Do you truly hate your own brothers that much? What would the world want for us? The world would want us to live in harmony, to live with each other, understand each other, help each other. That does not mean ridding the world of imperfect people—it means helping imperfect people become better.
But I tried to help them. I tried to persuade them. I tried to change their minds. No matter how many times I speak, they never listen. They treat me like trash—so they are my enemy.
How do you try to change them? With hate in your heart for their actions? With self-righteousness? Hatred for the hatred of others does not destroy hate—it only spreads it. Only true love and understanding can eradicate hate.
Does this mean I should love them no matter what they do? Should I bow down to them and kiss their feet?
No. Stand firm. Protect your morals. Understand why people act as they do. Everyone behaves in ways they believe are beneficial to themselves. The problem is that their perspective is wrong, and it leads them to harm themselves and others. Evil comes from wrong perspective. If you can change their perspective through love, you turn an “enemy” into a brother.
But they caused suffering to me. They caused suffering to others. Don’t they deserve suffering themselves?
They have already suffered. They suffered the moment they inflicted suffering on others. They strayed from God’s purpose. They lost their humanity. They wounded themselves by wounding others. If you inflict suffering on them, you become the very “enemy” you claim to hate.
So how do we resolve our conflicts?
As I said before—with understanding, love, and peace. We are all brothers. If you saw your friend walking down a dark path, you would not shun him for doing so. You would help him understand. The same is true for your self-perceived enemies.
